A 7-foot-tall bronze version of the famous sculpture "Medusa With The Head Of Perseus" was unveiled Tuesday at Manhattan's Collect Pond Park. In October 2017, The New York Times and The New Yorker reported that dozens of women had accused film producer Harvey Weinstein of rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse over a period of at least 30 years. Over 80 women in the film industry eventually accused Weinstein of such acts. Weinstein himself denied "any non-consensual sex". Shortly after, he was dismissed from The Weinstein Company (TWC), expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and other professional associations, and retired from public view.
Criminal investigations into complaints from at least six women took place in Los Angeles, New York City, and London. In May 2018, Weinstein was arrested in New York and charged with rape and other offenses.[1] In February 2020, he was found guilty of rape in the third degree and a criminal sexual act.[2] In March 2020, he was sentenced to 23 years of imprisonment.[3]
The New York Times and The New Yorker were awarded the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for their coverage of Weinstein. The scandal triggered many similar allegations against powerful men around the world, and led to the ousting of many of them from their positions. It also led a great number of women to share their own experiences of sexual assault, harassment, or rape on social media under the hashtag #MeToo. The scandal's impact on powerful men in various industries came to be called the Weinstein effect.

Fixed star Algol, Beta Persei, is a 2.1 magnitude, rare triple star and eclipsing binary, located in the Medusa’s Head, carried in the left hand of the Hero, Perseus Constellation. The name Algol comes from the Arabic word رئيس الغول, meaning Head of the Ogre. The English translation became Demon Star, with other names being Satan’s Head, the Spectre’s Head. In Chinese, it belongs to a group of stars called the Mausoleum. Algol appears to blink as shown in the animation below. Every 69 hours, its magnitude dips for about 10 hours before returning to full brightness again.
Algol represents the head of the Gorgon Medusa who was slain by Perseus. Medusa, who was the only mortal one of the three Gorgon sisters, was originally a beautiful maiden, but her hair was changed into hissing serpents by Minerva in consequence of her having become by Neptune the mother of Chrysaor and Pegasus in one of Minerva’s temples. This gave her so fearful an appearance that everyone who looked at her was changed into stone.
The trial in Los Angeles commenced in October 2022. Weinstein was charged with 11 counts of rape, forcible oral copulation and sexual battery, stemming from alleged acts between 2004 and 2013. He was found guilty of 3 of 7 charges (four of the initial 11 charges were dropped) on December 19, 2022.

Selkie stories are traditionally romantic tragedies, with the Selkie in most stories returning to the sea after several years as a Seal Wife to a human, leaving behind her husband and children.
One well known story is about a beautiful Selkie trapped by a fisherman on the island of Kalsoy, he takes her seal skin while she is on land one night, and hides it.
Having her seal fur taken from her, she is forced to become his wife, even though she already has a selkie husband and children.
They end up having two children together.
One day however, he goes fishing, and she finds her seal skin hidden in a chest in their home.
She escapes back to her Selkie family, after ensuring her land children are cared for, until the fisherman's return.
She leaves behind a message, to not follow her and to not harm her Selkie family.
The fishermen however, ignore the warning and end up killing both her Selkie husband and Selkie children.
In revenge she curses the men of the island to die in frequent accidents, until as many have perished as can link arms around the whole island.
